We Need a Local Voice in Albany

Thursday, May 18, 2017

As the year winds down, we would like to keep you up to date with some important events.   First of all, thank you to everyone coming to celebrate  the careers of our retirees on June 1st. There are still plenty of tickets so if you haven't purchased them, please see your senior rep as soon as possible.

Yesterday, our community came out to support our schools and overwhelmingly voted for the school budget.  I would also like to congratulate Jack Nix for his victory on Tuesday night in the school board elections.  We look forward to working with him on the issues that matter most to our union, our schools, and our teachers.
Now that the school board elections are over, it is time to support our fellow teachers.  One of them, Christine Pellegrino, is running in a special election for State Assembly.  The district includes Brightwaters, West Islip, Seaford, Amityville, West Babylon, and Babylon. Some of you may know Christine as a leader in the Opt Out movement or as a loyal union teacher from Baldwin.  Christine needs all of her fellow teachers help, which is why the NYSUT will be holding a labor walk for her this Saturday at the Bay Shore Classroom Teachers Association.  I have provided more information below.
